After sharing solo track "Dance" alongside some new album plans late last month, former Hey Rosetta! frontman Tim Baker has shared another new song.
Titled "Spirit," the track arrives via another "Side Door Sessions" live video from Baker's intimate cross-Canada solo tour earlier this year. You can watch the clip — shot in Quidi Vidi, Newfoundland & Labrador — in the player below.
"Spirit is about just being a musician in St. John's. It's funny, that I had to move away to write that song," Baker recalled. "I was invited to do a Lawnya Vawnya Songwriters Residency there at the lovely Inn by Mallard, and as part of it, did a couple shows at the end of the week and gave the proceeds to the Girls Rock NL."
He continued: "My dear friend and HR bandmate Phil Maloney shot the video, with Duncan de Young, and it was edited by Curt Lobb. We chose to show this song in this location for obvious reasons I guess: after weeks playing it out West and over the Prairies and the Canadian Shield, it felt especially good and full and right to play there on the edge of the water, at the edge of town."
As previously reported, Baker will release a solo album in early 2019, produced by Marcus Paquin.
