The Tragically Hip are set to kick off their cross-Canada tour behind Man Machine Poem later this week, and CBC will be streaming the final date of the trek in Kingston, ON, on August 20. But if you would rather leave the comfort of your home to take in the show with other Hip fans, a number of big-screen streaming events have begun popping up across the country.
For those who couldn't get tickets to the Kingston date, the city will stream the performance with "concert-quality audio visuals" in Springer Market Square, with crowd capacity expanded into the surrounding streets. The Kingston Whig-Standard also reports that August 20 will be proclaimed "The Tragically Hip Day" in the city, with transit to the free event also being free of charge after 4 p.m.
Similar events have begun popping up across Canada. Two separate screenings in Winnipeg will take place in Assiniboine Park and at the West End Cultural Centre, while the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver will also be streaming the event. Registration for free entry spots for the latter event can be found here. Toronto and Halifax have also added events, which you can find listed below.
The stream will begin at 8:30 p.m. local time and will go out across CBC Television, CBC Radio One and CBC Radio 2, as well as streaming on CBC Music and CBC's YouTube channels.
"The Tragically Hip's enigmatic sound, their poignant and witty lyrics, and the unique, special relationship they have with their fans have helped define and influence our identity as Canadians," executive VP of English services, Heather Conway, said in a statement last month. "CBC and the Hip are so happy to be able to share this event with all Canadians and bring audiences across the country and around the world together to celebrate the moment."
