Helms Alee Return with 'Stillicide,' Premiere New Track

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jun 23, 2016

Pacific Northwest post-rock trio Helms Alee have announced they're back with even more moody, speaker cone-exploding music. The band's fourth full-length release is titled Stillicide, and it comes out September 2 via Sargent House.

The collection is the trio's second for Sargent House, following 2014's Sleepwalking Sailors. Guitarist Ben Verellen, bassist Dana James, and drummer Hozoji Margullis left the West Coast to record the album with esteemed producer Kurt Ballou (Converge, Baptists) at his GodCity Studios in Salem, MA.

Stillicide is said to push Helms Alee's arrangements to extremes, with both the heavier moments being "more oppressive" and its melodic sojourns apparently being especially "beguiling." Perhaps it could be noted that the record includes a song titled "Galloping Mind Fuk."

Beyond the varying instrumental sonics, the soft-to-severe dynamic is also maintained via the juxtaposition between "Verellen's patriarchal roar and the siren song vocals of James and Margullis." The record is also said to mix elements of darkened pop with math rock.

To tease the release, the band are streaming the equally atmospheric and hammered-down album track "Tit to Toe," which you'll find below along with Stillicide's tracklisting and info on a run of North American dates supporting the Melvins and Russian Circles.
