Hellmouth

Gravestone Skylines

BY Sam SutherlandPublished Nov 29, 2010

Fronted by former Suicide Machines vocalist Jay Navarro, there's no way anyone could have predicted something this volatile coming from a guy best known for being in a ska band and singing about his dog. This shit absolutely kills, pulling together hunks of punk, metal and thrash to produce an impressively solid collection of crossover songs that hold their own against the likes of Municipal Waste and Toxic Holocaust. Hellmouth's particular blend veers more heavily into the world of punk and hardcore, with more D.R.I. than CoC coming to the surface on songs like "The Sun is Dying" and "Tragedy of a City." Gravestone Skylines manages to be seriously brutal and evocative of great bands of the past without relying too heavily on genre conventions. Hellmouth stand on their own.
