Helena Hauff is perhaps the most exciting DJ and producer in Germany these days, lacing her sets with mechanical blasts of noise and conjuring icy electro from her hardware. For her latest batch of tracks, she retreated to her Hamburg studio, producing the four bangers featured on this sleekly-designed 12-inch.
Her signature chill is faded somewhat on opening track "Nothing Is What I Know," as evinced by a playfully disjointed synth melody beneath which a quaking bass drum thumps. "Do You Really Think Like That?" is a touch more oblique, with an acid squelch running parallel to a slightly out of tune melody. The funky electro of "Continuez Mon Enfant Vous Serez Traité en Conséquence" is the real prize on this EP, charging along with an exhilarating low-end rhythm, while "Gift" steps a few decades into the past with its pleasant, new wave-inspired palette.
While certainly expanding her horizons on Have You Been There, Have You Seen It?, Hauff has retained enough of her modus operandi that long-time fans will be satiated; newcomers may go away thirsting for more.
