Helado Negro Canta Lechuza

Helado Negro Canta Lechuza
South Floridian Latinist Roberto Lange entered the electronic music vernacular with much help from friend and musical collaborator Guillermo Scott Herren. Best known as Prefuse 73, Herren teamed with Lange to create the Savath and Savalas album La Llama before remixing a selection of tracks for Lange's alter ego: Epstein. Releasing his second LP as Helado Negro, Lange distances himself from his biggest fan on Canta Lechuza. Moving away from his multi-dimensional hip-trip-blip-hop, songs like "Alcanzar" and "Obra Uno" work hard to showcase Lange's breathy vocals, as he allows them to gestate and bloom with patient rhythms and warm-sounding electronics. The fact that Lange sings in Spanish conveniently complements his preferred mode of songwriting, as "Globitos" and "Oreja de Arena" would come off romantic and solicitous even if sung in Vulcan. Canta Lechuza is an LP oozing with much charismatic personality and allure. Just keep an eye on your daughter when Lange comes to town. (Asthmatic Kitty)
