Kandi Lounge

BY Sarah FergusonPublished Feb 20, 2008

This record is chock full of laidback grooves that don’t have much to do with house music besides their comfort of play on a Sunday morning afternoon (as explained on the sleeve: "This product improves recovery from strenuous dance floor activities”). On the first of the double disc set, you’ll hear acoustic guitar, jazz, funk and Latin rhythms, and plenty of diva-produced vocals. Awesome highlight is indie tune "Young Folks” by Swedes Peter, Bjorn and John, featuring Victoria Bergsman (vocalist for the Concretes). The second disc is more beat-oriented, with a bevy of deep and soulful house producers showing up (Miguel Migs, Dorfmeister, Ananda Project). Kandi Lounge shows a great crossing of genres (i.e., indie rock, classic lounge) played up by the electronic beat. The sweet sounds of the album have the intention to soothe and relax, and the aim is met. Don’t expect anything mind-blowing or life changing but if you want some cool music to chill to in 2008, look no further.
