Former Heat frontman Susil Sharma has unveiled a new, post-punk and shoegaze-laced indie rock project called Karma Glider. The Montreal quartet have announced their debut EP, led by new single "In Deep Ocean."

Future Fiction is due July 7 via Mothland. If earworm lead track "In Deep Ocean" is any indication, it's set to feature Sharma's signature punk-crooner vocal style and Nintendo-sourced 8-bit samples.

"The lyrics are about turning 30," the frontman said of the new single. "All my friends and I were going through existential crises (breakups, family loss, etc.) and I'd just gotten clean from drugs. I was really learning how to rely on my loved ones for the first time. Life is an ocean and the best ship to get across is friendship."

The song arrives alongside a video made in collaboration between Sharma and Stacy Lee, the latter shooting footage of the band stylized in homage to the Jesus and Mary Chain and Ride music videos. "One of my many (worrisome?) pandemic rabbit holes was combing through hours of old Super 8 instructional videos," Sharma explained. "I found a lot of beautiful shots in the midst of what were otherwise fairly stale and prosaic films and, like any good art thief, I immediately earmarked them for later use."
