Mo Kenney has been in a covers sort of mood these days, so much so the Nova Scotia songwriter has a new album coming out simply called Covers. Today, she's shown off the record a bit more by delivering her take on Daniel Romano's "Hard on You."

A press release describes Kenney's version like this:

A staple of and standout in the wildly prolific Daniel Romano's songwriting quiver, the tune conjures a frustrated snarl, giving hell to someone who's overstayed their welcome. Kenney's lonesome, unadorned version captures the psychic exhaustion of dealing with human fallibility and protecting loved ones, using nothing but earthy acoustic fingerpicking and her weary, raspy voice.

Kenney herself said: "I've been a big Daniel Romano fan since I first heard this song. It was so nice to hear a modern country song that was reminiscent of the old stuff. The songwriting is so good, I was excited to strip it down so the lyrics really shine. Recorded in front of one mic at the New Scotland Yard."

"Hard on You" will appear on Covers, which is due out on February 26. This latest cover tune follows Kenney's takes on Patsy Cline's classic "You Belong to Me" and Guided By Voices' "Game of Pricks."
