For a run of three headlining shows in Australia last October, Fucked Up made sure to bring along another exclusive 7-inch. The B-side of the Fading Eyes single saw the band cover the Tragically Hip, and their version has now found its way online.
The cover finds the Canadian punks heaping some of their own trademark grit onto the Hip's "In View," the first single from the latter's 2006 album World Container. You can hear it in the player below.
Shots of the single's sleeve on Discogs show a dedication to the late frontman that reads, "R.I.P. Gord Downie, Thank You For the Friendship."
Fucked Up frontman Damian Abraham wrote of his friendship with Downie for VICE in 2016. Downie made a guest vocal appearance on Fucked Up's "The Art of Patrons," which appeared on their 2014 album Glass Boys.
Fucked Up last released their Dose Your Dreams album in 2018. Last month, the province of Ontario introduced a new poet laureate role named after Downie.
Downie passed away in 2017 at the age of 53 from glioblastoma.
