While the world has lately been fixated on the story of Queen in the wake of Bohemian Rhapsody, a previously unheard solo track from iconic frontman Freddie Mercury has now been released 40 years on from its recording.
Titled "Time Waits for No One," the song was initially recorded and released in 1986 as "Time" for Dave Clark's musical of the same name. While the frontman did not appear in the musical, the single was included on the cast album alongside another Mercury single "In My Defence."
This previously unreleased rehearsal version, recorded in January 1986 at Abbey Road Studios, features Mercury accompanied by pianist Mike Moran. Clark retrieved the recording from his tape archive in the spring of 2018 and enlisted Moran to record a new piano track.
Clark has also produced and directed a video for the song, which you can find below. He has also published a short interview between himself and Mercury about the collaboration, which you can view here.
Mercury's lone solo release was 1985's Mr. Bad Guy. The aforementioned "Time" single had previously seen release in Mercury's posthumous 2000 box set The Solo Collection and 2006 compilation Lover of Life, Singer of Songs: The Very Best of Freddie Mercury Solo.
