Hear DJ Premier's Remix of J. Cole's "1985"

J. Cole showed us last week that he was more receptive to the newest generation of rappers than his lyrics in KOD cut "1985 (Intro to 'The Fall Off')" might have let on, but that doesn't mean rap's old guard wasn't feeling it: Cole's pen game has now inspired a remix from production vet DJ Premier.

Premo has put his own spin on the track as the "DJ Premier 1966 Remix," in reference to his own birth year. You can hear it in the player below.

"I bought J. Cole's KOD LP as soon as it dropped with no warning to the fans; which I too am a fan," Premier explained in the track's description. "'1985' resonated with me immediately so I asked Cole if I could get the acapella and do an underground DJ version just for fun. He sent it and I just pieced some stab samples to keep it on some boom bap shit."

J. Cole is set to take "1985" and the rest of his KOD LP on tour later this summer, where he'll be joined by Young Thug. Find a complete itinerary here.

KOD is available vinyl or CD via Umusic.
