Cancer Bats and Single Mothers are about to head out on tour together, and now they are joining forces for a new covers EP, with the bands trading off songs and taking on each other's work.
The split release is coming via New Damage Records and going under the title of Switcheroo, which is inspired by the original Dine Alone Records Switcheroo Series featuring Alexisonfire and Moneen. For this new 2019 instalment, Cancer Bats are taking on Single Mothers' "Dog Parks" and "Switchoff," while Single Mothers are covering Cancer Bats' "Road Sick."
The split EP is out now both digitally and as a limited-edition 7-inch, and you can listen to the tracks below or via your service of choice here.
"Ever since the first Switcheroo on Dine Alone Records featuring Alexisonfire and Moneen, we've always wanted to bring the series over to New Damage," New Damage's Jake Myhal said in a statement. "The Switcheroo is such a fun concept and we plan on releasing many more. Vol. 2 is already being discussed and it's quite an ambitious crossover. Look forward to that and others in 2020!"
Speaking of the split EP, Cancer Bats frontman Liam Cormier said:
When it came to picking Single Mothers songs to cover, we decided why stop at just ONE! We went for it and grabbed 2 and just mashed them into one song! Drew has such awesome lyrics, it was great to really dive into someone elses writing style and cadence and the Romano brothers wrote a scorcher of a punk track that made the whole thing a blast to play!
Single Mothers singer Drew Thomson added:
We knew we'd never sound as good as the Bat's but we picked our favourite song anyways and tried our best not to ruin it while still having fun. Liam has told such a great story that we're all living through with this song that it felt like, what a perfect one to go out on the road with. SMxCB 4 EVA.
The release of New Damage Switcheroo Vol. 1 comes just in time for a Canadian tour by Cancer Bats and Single Mothers. The trek kicks off tomorrow (September 12), and you can see the full schedule below.
