Hear an Unreleased Pink Floyd Song Written by Syd Barrett

Pink Floyd promised that their monstrous 27-disc box set The Early Years 1965-1972 would include some ultra rare material from their days with original frontman Syd Barrett. Before it arrives next week, one of the Barrett-led tracks has made its way to BBC radio.

Titled "Vegetable Man," the song was written by the former Floyd member in 1965 before it was properly recorded in 1967. Carrying Barrett's trademark cynical humour, the song has been widely bootlegged by fans for years, but the track's inclusion in the box set marks its first official release. Both the Jesus and Mary Chain and Soft Boys have recorded covers of the tune.

"Vegetable Man" can be heard over here on BBC Radio 6 by skipping ahead to 51:15. The Early Years 1965-1972 arrives November 11.
