Mounties

"Headphones" (video)

Well, that was quick. Earlier today (January 25), Hawksley Workman announced he'd formed a supergroup called Mounties with Hot Hot Heat's Steve Bays and Limblifter's Ryan Dahle, and promised we'd get to hear some material real soon. It turns out he meant within the space of a couple of hours, as the band have officially dropped their first single, "Headphones."

According to a tweet from the band, it's "a cranker and a dancer," which fits well with the track's shuffling indie-pop bounce. The song itself is a toast to tunes enjoyed over a nice set of headphones. While it features a ton of stereo-centric wordplay, it also includes an unfortunate quip about "feeling more connected than unlimited Wi-Fi."

Still, it's a fun introduction to the band, whose playfulness is amped up by old kids show clips featuring Stratocaster-toting skeletons and a singing stegosaurus. You can check it out down below.
