Published Jul 27, 2013Earlier this month, Jay Z performed his Magna Carta Holy Grail for six hours straight in New York's Pace Gallery. Now, the performance is being made into an HBO documentary called Picasso Baby: A Performance Art Film.
The series of performances saw Hova performing for myriad fans and celebrities, including Judd Apatow, Jim Jarmusch, Alan Cumming, Rosie Perez and others. From the looks of it, the performance seems to have been inspired by Marina Abramovic's The Artist is Present, though we're guessing she didn't mind as she also appears in the film.
"Rap is thinking out loud, and you're putting your fears, and your vulnerabilities, and your insecurities into your music," Jay Z says in a trailer, which is available below. "Concerts are pretty much performance art, and a smaller video is a bit more intimate, so you feel the energy of the people."
Picasso Baby: A Performance Art Film will air on HBO on Friday, August 2 at 11 p.m. EST following an episode of Real Time with Bill Maher that will also include an appearance from Jay Z.
