Have Iced Earth Been Dropped by Their Record Label?

The band and guitarist Jon Schaffer's side-project Demons and Wizards are no longer listed as Century Media artists

Yesterday, it was reported that Iced Earth guitarist Jon Schaffer turned himself in after storming the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., and subsequently landing on the FBI's Most Wanted list. With Schaffer now facing six charges from the incident, Iced Earth's longtime label Century Media could be looking to distance itself from the group.

MetalSucks points out that both Iced Earth and offshoot Demons and Wizards, of which Schaffer is a member, no longer appear on Century Media's artists page.

Using the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine, a look at the label's page in 2020 gives a clear look at where both bands sit in the label's alphabetized list. When contacted by MetalSucks, a Century Media representative declined to comment on either group's status with the label.

Iced Earth signed with Century Media in 1990 and have since released all but three of their 12 total studio albums through the label. Demons and Wizards delivered their third album, III, through the label last year.

Charges against Schaffer following his arrest include engaging in an act of physical violence in a Capitol building, knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, disrupting the orderly conduct of government business, violent entry and disorderly conduct in a Capitol building, engaging in an act of physical violence in a Capitol building, and demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building.

Prior to the incident at the Capitol, Schaffer was not shy about sharing his right-wing, conspiratorial beliefs. Last July, he told MetalSucks that the COVID-19 pandemic was a "psychological warfare campaign" and warned of right-wing political violence when interviewed at a pro-Trump event in November 2020.
