The latest piece of chaos from Nocturnal Blood member Ghastly Apparition comes in the form of this 17-minute sprawling black hole of black death under the name the Haunting Presence. The sound reaches truly ugly places that make Portal sound like orchestral chamber pop music, which means it's a victory: feel the swirling, grinding blackthrash and the primitive caveman death, and get down with the overall sense of suffocation and darkness that swirls out of every dive-bombed guitar solo and relentless blasting riff pattern.

Mentioning individual songs is a futile exercise here, as each one is a little bit of one and the same, all smaller parts to a greater whole, one that without remorse swallows the listener and leaves them feeling a little bit ashamed but mostly just reinvigorated. 17 minutes is the ideal length for music of this intensity.
