Harlan Pepper's Dan Edmonds Goes Solo for 'Ladies on the Corner'

Hamilton's Harlan Pepper called it quits last summer after eight years together. Now, frontman Dan Edmonds is set to start the next chapter of his musical journey with his debut solo album Ladies on the Corner, due out this fall.

A press release reveals that Edmonds presents himself as "a folkie with a tough, inner-city edge" on the new disc, breaking away from the Americana tag that was largely attached to his former group.

"Americana has become a pretty broad term, even though I never totally felt like it applied to us," Edmonds said in a statement. "But I feel like these new songs show off a different side of all the old country and folk music I still love. My hope is that people will come to this album with fresh ears and appreciate it for what it is."

After recording the base tracks himself, Edmonds then worked with Sean Pearson at Boxcar Sound Recording in Hamilton, where additional guitars were added by Wayne Petti (Grey Lands, Cuff the Duke), lap steel by Rich Burnett (Bry Webb) and bass by Tyler Belluz.

"My idea was mainly to just hit record and see what came out," Edmonds continued. "A lot of the songs were created that way, but the entire album evolved over a long period of time. I used an 8-track machine, so I was really limited in that sense, but I loved the challenge. It was almost like trying to make the perfect demo. To me, demos always sound better than the final product in most cases."

Ladies on the Corner will arrive on October 7 through Missed Connection Records. Read through the record's tracklist below to find Edmonds's upcoming solo dates.
