Happy Mondays' Shaun Ryder to Release Memoir This Fall

BY Alex HudsonPublished Mar 10, 2011

Shaun Ryder has has an eventful career. In addition to fronting Happy Mondays and Black Grape, he's been a newspaper columnist and appeared on the British reality show I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here. Now, Ryder is getting ready to lift the lid on his life and career by releasing a memoir.

There's no word as to what it will be called, but The Bookseller reports that it will come out this fall through Transworld. Ryder said, "I've been mithered for years to write my autobiography, but I've always said no because the timing never felt right."

He continued, "Plenty of other people have had their say on Happy Mondays and Black Grape, and now just felt like the right time to tell it like it really happened."

Transworld editorial director Sarah Emsley described the book as a "raw, undiluted autobiography." This presumably means that it delves into the substance abuse problems that have plagued Ryder's life. We'll have to see if it covers the dental work that turned the singer's teeth from the worst in the biz into this magnificent set of chompers.

As for Ryder's musical activities, we learned in 2008 that Happy Mondays were working on a new album, but we still haven't seen a LP since 2007's oft-ignored Uncle Dysfunktional.
