Hands & Teeth Reinvent Themselves for 'Before the Light' EP, Unveil New Song

BY Alex HudsonPublished Feb 6, 2014

Toronto pop-rock outfit Hands & Teeth are now more than two years removed from their debut album, Hunting Season, and they've announced plans for a busy 2014 that will include a new EP and a tour. Before the Light is due out on March 11 through Underground Operations as a 7-inch and digital download.

The new material was created during downtime in 2013, when Hands & Teeth rejigged their sound following the departure of a band member. The tunes included on the five-track mini-release were recorded at Ill Eagle Studio with Zeus members Carlin Nicholson and Mike O'Brien.

According to a press release, this pop-friendly batch of songs provided an "escape from the family deaths, crippling breakups, psychotic landlords and other hardships all four members had endured over the last two years."

Singer-guitarist Kevin Black explained in a statement, "Hands & Teeth has always been about pushing to the forefront in a city where standing back is the norm. We've been having fun just MOVING. No more standing still — dance, pulse, move your head. No one else is gonna do it for you."

That's the EP's cover art above. At the bottom of this page, hear the crunchy, poppy post-punk cut "Not the Same," which you can also download over here on Noisetrade.
