Canadian metalheads, raise your horns high and salute your 2016 Wacken Metal Battle Canada champions: Hamilton five-piece Profaner.

The band were crowned national champions of the 2016 edition this weekend at Toronto's Opera House, where they faced off for Canadian metal supremacy against Vancouver's the Mountain Man, Edmonton's Tales of the Tomb, Toronto's Pyramid Theorem and Montreal's DistortHead. They join the ranks alongside previous national winners Vesperia (2015), Mutank (2014) and Crimson Shadows (2013).

"After a close and epic battle our national champion that is Profaner has been yielded," competition organizer JJ Tartaglia said in a statement. "We will be proud to showcase their brand of melodic death/thrash on behalf of Canadian metal to the holy fields of Wacken."

Profaner will perform as part of the international battle at Wacken Open Air, with the festival taking place from August 4 to 6. They'll be defending Canada's world title after Toronto's Vesperia were crowned world champions in 2015.

Profaner's most recent album is Signs of Nine, which arrived in 2014. You can stream and purchase the nine-track release in the player below.
