With the winter thaw slowly approaching, the organizers of Halifax's OBEY Convention have begun to roll out the details behind the next instalment of the annual spring event, which will feature performances from slowcore icons Low and ambient pop experimentalist Julianna Barwick, among others.

Described in a press release as "Atlantic Canada's only festival of alternate realities for music and art," OBEY Convention VII is being held May 22 to 25 at various venues around Halifax. In addition to Low and Julianna Barwick, a few other early reveals include Jef Barbara, Norwegian composer Maja Ratjke and Vancouver dream-pop player White Poppy. Twenty-five more acts participating in this year's festivities will be announced on March 27.

Organizers will be expanding the scope of OBEY this year to include side-festival Art in Fest, described as "a standalone festival of visual and installation works by some of Canada's most intriguing artists." Details on the lineup are forthcoming, but Art in Fest begins a couple days earlier than OBEY proper on May 20.

Early bird passes are available now for $69. The passes will grant you entry into all of the shows at OBEY Convention this year. Also available is the Friend of the Festival pass, currently going for $99. This also nabs you a T-shirt or tote bag, entry into off-season events in Halifax, and finds proceeds going back into programming, artist fees and more.
