Halifax Pop Explosion Announces Free Shows, Adds Islands, Chad VanGaalen's Black Mold, the Darcys

As summer festival season draws to a close, Halifax Pop Explosion has announced even more acts that will be playing its 2013 edition, along with confirming the annual event will host some pretty great free shows.

A heap of acts have been added to the bill, including Islands, Chad VanGaalen's Black Mold project, DIANA, the Darcys, Al Tuck, Cousins, Grounders, Jon Mckiel, Monomyth, Renny Wilson, PUP, Julie Fader, Rah Rah, the Golden Dogs, TOPS, Tough Age, Cheryl Hann, HSY, Ghostkeeper, A.A. Wallace, Crosss, Cursed Arrows, Grey Kingdom, Nick Ferrio and His Feelings, Still Life Still, This Sound Will Save You, and piles more.

As for those free shows, they will take place on Grand Parade on October 25 and 26 (that's a Friday and Saturday). The former date will feature Shad, We Are Wolves, the Zolas and a special guest. The Saturday show, meanwhile, includes Islands, DIANA, the Golden Dogs and the Town Heroes. The shows are all-ages.

Finally, SOCAN Songwriting Prize winner Mo Kenney will play in the ballroom at Government House on October 22. This event will be open to contest winners; in order to be eligible, email your name and phone number to contest@halifaxpopexplosion.com with the subject line "Evenings @ Government House." The email must be sent between September 9 and 13. Thirty winners will be randomly selected to receive two tickets; they will be contacted on September 20.

Halifax Pop Explosions runs from October 22 to 26. Previously confirmed performers include the Walkmen, Fucked Up, Wavves, Action Bronson, Japandroids, the Besnard Lakes, Young Galaxy, Killer Mike, Joel Plaskett, METZ, Braids, Tony Dekker of Great Lake Swimmers, Hannah Georgas, Hollerado, No Joy, Doldrums, BadBadNotGood, Dirty Beaches, Obits, Zeus, Dusted, Suuns, KEN Mode, Royal Canoe, By Divine Right, Thus:Owls, Louise Burns, BA Johnston, Pick a Piper, Jay Arner, Woodpigeon, Poor Young Things, and the Highest Order.
