Published Mar 24, 2014Dave Brockie, who performed as the frontman of legendary larger-than-life metal crew Gwar, has passed away. He was 50 years old.
As Style Weekly reports, police were called to Brockie's home in Richmond, VA, on Sunday (March 23). When they arrived, at approximately 6:53 p.m. local time, he was found deceased in his home. Police say they do not expect foul play, though Brockie's cause of death has yet to be revealed.
"Dave was one of the funniest, smartest, most creative and energetic persons I've known," Gwar bassist Mike Bishop said. "He was brash sometimes, always crass, irreverent, he was hilarious in every way. But he was also deeply intelligent and interested in life, history, politics and art."
Under the alias of Oderus Urungus, the Canadian-born Brockie founded Gwar in 1984. This year, the group celebrated their 30th anniversary as a band, and they released their album Battle Maximus last year.
