Coming off of the news yesterday (November 25) that Megadeth drummer Shawn Drover left the band to pursue other "musical interests," longtime guitarist Chris Broderick has announced that he's left the iconic thrash act as well.
A statement was made via the six-stringer's website late last night, citing both musical and personal differences with the band as the reasons behind his exit.
"It is with great reluctance that I announce my departure from Megadeth to pursue my own musical direction. I want all of you to know how much I appreciate the amount that you the fans have accepted and respected me as a member of Megadeth for the last seven years, but it is time for me to move on," he wrote, adding, "I wish Dave [Mustaine] and everyone in Megadeth all the best. I am working on a few things of my own and hope that when they come out, you will all dig it."
Broderick joined the Big Four thrash band in 2008, replacing previous guitarist Glen Drover. His tenure with the band had him playing on 2009's Endgame, 2011's Thirteen and last year's Super Collider.
Prior to joining Megadeth, Broderick was the lead guitarist in Jag Panzer, recording four albums with the Colorado power metal unit before officially departing in 2008. Broderick had also acted as tour guitarist for Nevermore between 2001 and 2003, as well as 2006 and 2007. It's as yet unclear what his next step will be.
At present, Megadeth's ranks include guitarist/vocalist Dave Mustaine and bassist Dave Ellefson, who co-founded the project before leaving the band in 2002. After an extended hiatus, Ellefson rejoined in 2010.
Though the band's ranks have been cut in half, neither Mustaine or Ellefson have commented on the veritable Countdown to Extinction Megadeth have faced the last couple of days.
