Guimares E O Grupo Som Sagrada

"Our Sound"

Strut Records has had an off and on existence over the past ten years or so; fortunately they've been firing on all cylinders since their resurrection from bankruptcy last year. Affiliated with !K7 group, they've come back strong with top notch compilations of Kid Creole, Compass Point Studio's output, and many surveys of vintage dance grooves from the world, which was their specialty during their 1999 to 2003 phase.

Some of the titles originally issued during this first phase have been reissued once again, usually with a few additional tracks. 2002's Black Rio was a survey of the effect of America's Black Power movement in creating the funky samba soul from Brazil during the '70s. The second volume has just hit stores both physical and virtual.

Here's a representative track by Guimares E O Grupo Som Sagrada. Featuring a "Theme From Shaft"-like groove with a wild electric organ soloing throughout, it's a perfect tempo to blend with so much other post-disco dance music from around the world or around the block. It's definitely one of those tunes to take a party to another level.
