Grimes Is Debuting Her AI Girl Group Next Week

NPC will feature on Chris Lake's "Love Is a Drug from God"

When not singing the praises of communism, renowned Karl Marx scholar Grimes (née Claire Boucher) has fittingly been plotting the premiere of her new girl group — and we'll make their acquaintance next week.

In an Instagram post last night (November 4), the master of quirk herself revealed that her "new girl group" called NPC will feature on Chris Lake's forthcoming single "Love Is a Drug from God." The song from the British EDM producer is scheduled to arrive next Friday (November 12).

This is not the first we've heard of the duo collaborating: Grimes teased an unreleased song with Lake back in June. Based on the audible lyrics in that sneaky concert footage (leaked by Boucher, naturally), it certainly seems like that bass-heavy club banger was "Love Is a Drug from God."

Perhaps most interesting here is Boucher's parenthesized quip in the caption of her post, writing: "(haha we're stuck on making their faces so we don't have pics yet omg)."

This makes it sound like NPC does not consist of real, human people — which doesn't come as a surprise, considering the fact that the AI-loving musician is a judge on the CGI singing contest Alter Ego (and pretty much everything else about her).

So, to recap: Grimes has an AI girl group called NPC and we'll hear from her and her faceless clones on Lake's "Love Is a Drug from God" next week. And that's what you missed on Glee!

Now we're just left to wonder what NPC is an acronym for... Not PC? Non-player character?

In September, Grimes shared post-breakup song "LOVE" slamming bad vibes on the internet after her separation from the billionaire entrepreneur, and announced her plans to establish a lesbian space commune.
