And so it begins! L.A.-based artist Kito is the first to officially release a track crediting Grimes's AI-cloned vocals

The artist born Claire Boucher has nothing but rave reviews for "Cold Touch," which she calls an "amazing song" and a "masterpiece." You can listen to it below.

This comes after Grimes invited artists to create music using her voice — so long as she received 50 percent royalties — with an AI program called Elf.Tech specifically designed to replicate her vocals. She also recently shed her partnership with Columbia Records, making her a free agent.

"I have no label and no legal bindings," she said in a Tweet when permitting her voice to be used in AI recordings.

Grimes's approach to AI-generated music starkly contrasts practically anyone else's in the music industry, preferring to embrace and encourage it instead of fearing and loathing it.
