Grimes and Elon Musk Have Changed Their Baby's Name

"X Æ A-12" would have violated California law

Earlier this month, Grimes and Elon Musk welcomed their first child into the world and later set the internet aflame with their unusual name for the baby, X Æ A-12.

As it turns out, California law restricts naming children with numbers and symbols, so the couple have no been forced to alter baby X's name to something slightly less weird.

As Grimes explained in an Instagram post on Sunday (May 24), the couple have amended baby X's name. In the comments section, she revealed her son will now go by X Æ A-Xii.

At another point, Grimes wrote, "Just removed the numbers to confirm to California law. Roman numerals. Looks better tbh."

You can see the post below.

Children born in the state of California must be named using only the 26 letters of the alphabet — meaning no symbols or numbers, excluding dashes and apostrophes. Representing the "12" portion of the name using Roman numerals indicates that the couple intend to continue pronouncing it the same way, though it's unclear whether they actually agree on the pronunciation.
