Coming from UK reggae revivalist label Necessary Mayhem, Gregory Isaacs — Remixed is a collection of new interpretations of the cool ruler's prodigious output by producer Curtis Lynch Jr. Featuring remixes of well known tracks such as "Night Nurse" and "Private Beach Party," with lesser-known gems like "Temporary Lover," Remixed works well both as an introduction to Isaacs' amazing back catalogue and for fans hungry for new material following his unfortunate passing in 2010. Lynch's remixes complement the original Augustus "Gussie" Clarke productions with panache, featuring a retro digital, deep, dub-y vibe that showcase Isaacs' dulcet tones perfectly; Lynch utilised some of the best musicians and engineers in the business, and it shows. It is a testament to Mr. Lynch's production chops that he managed to create a fresh, new sonic palette that doesn't detract from the original riddims, and considering the high calibre of musicians who played on the originals, from Sly & Robbie to Dean Fraser, this is all the more impressive. Remixed is highly recommended for Isaacs fans, old and new.
