For many years, Green Day were a trio, but the arena-punk band added longtime touring guitarist Jason White as a full member a couple of years back. Now, White has fallen upon tough times, as he's been diagnosed with cancer.

White has got cancer of the tonsils. An announcement on Green Day's website says that the doctors "caught it early" and that the cancer is "treatable." He's also expected to make a "full and speedy recovery."

White will likely have a little bit of time in which to rest and recuperate, since frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has signed on to star and write music for the upcoming film Geezer. Between that, his recent role in the new film Like Sunday, Like Rain and his Everly Brothers duets with Norah Jones, the singer has has mostly been focusing on side-projects as of late.
