Green Day Plot New Live Album

Green Day Plot New Live Album
Now that veteran pop punks Green Day have developed a penchant for epic arena rock, they've taken to following up their studio LPs with live albums. A year after 2004's American Idiot, they released Bullet in a Bible. Now, following 2009's 21st Century Breakdown, the band are getting set to issue another live album.

MTV reports that, during a show in Denver, CO, on Saturday (August 28), frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said, "Hey, I just want to tell you something right now. We're recording a live fucking album right now."

The live album will likely be culled from a number of performances; Bullet in a Bible was compiled from two separate nights. One song that will likely appear on the album is an unreleased track, "Cigarettes and Valentines."

After telling the Denver crowd that the show was being recorded, Armstrong introduced a "brand new song," which was actually written years ago, during the sessions prior to American Idiot.

Watch the video embedded below to hear the singer talk about the album before launching into the new song, which is a straight-up punk rocker that sounds a bit like it could have come from 1994's classic Dookie.
