Toronto metal outfit Great Lakes are gearing up to release their debut LP Broken World later this summer, and before the record arrives, the band have given listeners a taste of what's to come with "Sink or Swim."
Delivered as a lyric video and featuring guest vocals from Blake Prince (Anniversary, Straight Reads the Line), the clip pairs the aggressive cut with graphic images and animations ripped straight from news headlines: polluted oceans, shootings, the Westboro Baptist Church and a backpack bomb to name a few.
"Out of all the songs on our new album, this one is the most bleak, and easily the darkest song we've ever written," the band wrote in a statement. "'Sink or Swim' is a response to all of the shitty things taking place in our world right now. We aren't trying to make any kind of profound statement with this song — we are simply expressing the anger, frustration, and hopelessness we feel as a few young Canadians who don't have any solutions to our world's problems, and don't really know what to do while we sit around helplessly and watch the world tear itself apart."
Broken World arrives August 28, but until then, take a listen to "Sink or Swim" in the player below.
