Grayscale

"Atlantic" / "Palette" (Acoustic) on No Future

BY Bradley Zorgdrager Published Dec 22, 2017

It's been an exciting year for Grayscale — one that belies their monochrome name. Since the May release of sophomore slamdunk Adornment on Fearless Records, the Philadelphia band have been on tour consistently with the likes of Four Year Strong, Trophy Eyes, Seaway, As It Is, Like Pacific and more. On Grayscale's latest run, the boys stopped by our Toronto office to perform an acoustic session for Exclaim! TV's No Future.

The band manage to encapsulate the catchiest pop punk and most earnest emo, while avoiding the cheesiest parts of both. The heartfelt side of their songs is only bolstered when they strip them down, as evidenced by these takes on "Atlantic" and "Palette," the first singles from their full-lengths Adornment and What We're Missing, respectively. Gone are the keyboard flourishes, but the dual vocal harmonies between Collin Walsh and Dallas Molster — sometimes triple with the addition of Andrew Kyne — more than fill out the arrangements.

Grayscale are closing their insane 2017 out at Four Year Strong's 10th annual holiday show on December 30 at the Palladium in Worcester, MA, sharing a masterfully mixed bill with Piebald and Incendiary, the creators of one of our Top 10 Metal and Hardcore Albums of 2017.

If you can't make it, celebrate the year of Grayscale by watching the sessions below. Hell, even if you can make it, too much of a good thing is most definitely still a good thing if it ain't hurting anyone, so watch away.
