Graveyard

The Altar of Sculpted Skulls

BY Greg PrattPublished Feb 6, 2012

It doesn't get much more obscure than this: a Spanish death metal band releasing an EP of four new songs and two old ones on a label that doesn't even have an email address I can find after spending ten minutes hunting around online. Add in some black and white cover art, sloppy drumming (whoa, check out the title track, feel the pain), a killer chainsaw guitar sound and, well, any death metal weirdo worth their salt is going to say this is good stuff. And, yes, that's what I'm about to say. It's totally been done before, but there's nothing wrong with demo-quality Left Hand Path worship is there? There's nothing wrong with living in a world where the currency of Autopsy never loses value and saying "demo quality" in a good way, right? In the land of death metal, where it's really just best sometimes if things don't change, no, there's nothing wrong with those things at all. And there's nothing wrong with this EP.
