Gravehill

When All Roads Lead to Hell

BY Greg PrattPublished May 24, 2011

For those familiar with this California black/thrash/death unit, When All Roads Lead to Hell is simply more of Gravehill's aural evil, horns flying in good (serious) fun in tribute to all things metal. The chant of "666!" in "Devil Worshipper" is infectious and ridiculous in all the best ways, and the song's riffs are similarly awesome, like the best of dark, Teutonic thrash mixed with the lighter side of Hell's Headbangers' roster. "Lighter" of course being a very relative term, as ragers like "Pray for War" and "Extinction" blast along at light speed, all grind, death and everything negative and bad and spikes and leather. The difference between this and some of the real crazy black thrash of today is a slightly better production and a slightly better ability to write memorable songs, which Gravehill actually manage to do on this cool disc, which really is the middle ground between the dark side of thrash and more extreme forms of metal. This album should help the band get the credit they deserve in the extreme metal underground.
