The Gories Return with New Material via Third Man 7-Inch

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 15, 2015

These days, Jack White is a label head in Nashville, but he's still staying true to his Detroit garage rock roots. Back in the fall, he honoured the Motor City's own the Gories with an archival live album for Third Man Records, as well as a solo folk album from the band's Danny Kroha. Next, Third Man will be releasing a new 7-inch from the band.

This is big news because the Gories haven't released a record of new material in more than 20 years. It contains two tracks: "Be Nice" is a cover of garage-punks the Nomads, while "On the Run" is described in an announcement as "the first original badass [Mick] Collins / Kroha composition in forever."

Technically speaking, "On the Run" isn't actually brand new, since it appeared on the streaming compilation Garage Swim in 2013. This is the first time it's being released in a physical format.

The Gories will be selling a triple-colour version of the 7-inch on their European tour this spring, while a standard black pressing will be available from the label. It's officially out next week, on May 19. You can see all the dates on their upcoming Euro dates here

For now, check out a snippet of "Be Nice" below.
