Canadian music hero Gordon Lightfoot has announced his first new album in more than a decade. Called SOLO, the record will arrive on March 20 via Warner Music. Right now, though, you can already hear the new song "Oh So Sweet."

SOLO marks Lightfoot's first album of new music since 2004's  Harmony, and as previously reported, he's been teasing the record for a while now — even telling the media last year that he quit smoking for the new LP.

According to a press release, "The album showcases Lightfoot at his most pure, alone in the studio with his guitar."

But while SOLO is Lightfoot's first record in years, several of the album tracks have older origins. Apparently, the songwriter discovered a treasure trove of unreleased material in his Toronto home, including two CDs of songs he recorded nearly two decades ago.

The press release explains, "The songs were written in late 2001 and early 2002, just before he suffered a near-fatal abdominal aortic aneurysm later that year. After discovering the songs, he went into Grant Avenue Studio in downtown Hamilton, ON, with his guitar to create this beautifully minimal work."

In a statement, Lightfoot himself said, "I thought my fans would be interested in hearing what songs sound like when first written."
