Good Brothers

Project Blowed Presents

BY Andy LeePublished Apr 1, 2004

It’s been a while since the first Project Blowed disc, but Aceyalone at last returns with the Good Brothers, a veritable who’s who of underground West Coast hip-hop. The disc opens with "Locked In,” a world-weary anthem for cubicle dwellers, wage slaves and other heartbroken souls. As before, Aceyalone’s imprint is felt throughout the compilation with his numerous appearances. For the most part, the production is of the laid-back, jazz-sampled variety, except for the stand-out single "Give It Here,” with its Neptunes-esque vibe. Although the Good Brothers tend to rank higher on quantity than quality, the variety provided by a plethora of guest MCs manages to keep things interesting and moving throughout.
