Producer Tucker Martine — known best for his work with bands including the Decemberists, My Morning Jacket, Modest Mouse, Laura Veirs, the Avett Brothers and Beth Orton — was robbed of over $70,000 USD worth of instruments and recording gear when his studio was broken into last month. Now, a GoFundMe has been launched to help recover the from the damage.
The campaign, started today by Decemberists bassist Nate Query, has raised $8,214 of its $55,000 goal as of press time. You can make a contribution through GoFundMe here.
"Last month, my friend Tucker Martine's new recording studio was broken into and more than $70,000 worth of microphones, amps, and guitars were stolen," Query wrote. "Tucker spent years collecting these unique pieces of equipment, and the theft comes just as he was opening the newest version of Flora Recording in a building Tucker and his wife, singer-songwriter Laura Veirs, have gone deeply into debt to finish building out. It's a huge setback just as this studio was getting off the ground."
In March, Martine posted a partial list of gear stolen from the studio, which included a Gretsch Chet Atkins signature guitar, a Hofner viola bass from 1967, and a black Fender Mustang bass from the 1970s. You can find the list below.
Query noted that a number of guitars have been recovered since Martine's initial post, with a guitar store in Tacoma, WA, buying them before realizing they were stolen instruments. He added that the GoFundMe campaign is being coordinated in conjunction with a benefit concert set to be held in Portland, with details to be announced soon.
