Calgary's Sled Island music festival returns this summer, and organizers have announced that Godspeed You! Black Emperor will be this year's guest curators.

In addition to hand-picking some of the musical talent that will be showcased, Godspeed You! Black Emperor will be playing two of their own shows during the festival. Scheduled to take place at the Central United Church, the performances will mark the band's first time playing in Calgary.

As explained by festival organizers, "Sled Island's guest curator helps to set the direction and tone of the festival through specialized programming choices and with their presence at the festival."

Past curators include John Dwyer (Thee Oh Sees), Kathleen Hanna, Time Hecker, Andrew W.K., Colin Newman (Wire), Scott Kannberg (Pavement) and Fucked Up.

This year's festival is slated to take place from June 24 to 28, with the curators' special lineup picks still to be revealed in the coming months. Ticket information can be found at Sled Island's website.
