Godspeed You! Black Emperor Bring Back 'monumental' Dance Collaboration for 2016 Shows

It's been a decade since Canadian post-rock heroes Godspeed You! Black Emperor teamed up with Vancouver dance troupe the Holy Body Tattoo for the 2005 piece monumental. Next year, monumental is set to return to the stage.

The collaborators had already confirmed that the piece would be coming to Quebec City's Grand Théâtre de Québec on April 15, 2016. Now, they've confirmed another, earlier performance: January 28 at Vancouver's Queen Elizabeth Theatre. This is part of the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival.

Excitingly, a press release from PuSh notes that this is "the first stop on this multi-city, international tour," so evidently more dates will be confirmed in due course. This is a comeback for the Holy Body Tattoo, who have been absent for 10 years; monumental — which features nine dancers and an eight-piece band performing a live score — is their most recent work.

An announcement describes monumental as "the expression of the madness of urban life — the repetition, the confinement, the alienation. Movement turns into metaphor, dance into poetry and sound into substance. The result is as violent, beautiful and cathartic as art can get." Preview the piece in the video at the bottom of this page.

Tickets for the Quebec City show are available here; tickets for the Vancouver show will go on sale on October 2 at 10 a.m. local time through Ticketfly.

Godspeed also have a busy fall tour schedule; see their full itinerary below.
