God Made Me Funky

Enter the Beat

The funk fusion experiment that are Toronto, ON-based God Made Me Funky (GMMF) are no doubt best experienced live. While their debut project a couple of years back effectively managed to capture the ensemble’s frenetic live shenanigans, Enter the Beat inevitably loses something in the translation. Nu Funktonians (as GMMF’s fans are wont to be called) will have to admit that GMMF are best suited to funking up the stage rather than the studio. It’s almost as if GMMF have conceded that they can’t recreate the live show on record and the resulting sound seems somewhat restrained. This is not necessarily a knock against the crew, as the band’s trademark funk, rock, hip-hop and R&B sound still represents. Indeed, joints like "Too Shy,” "Revolshun” and the title track acceptably serve as funk teasers, inviting you to check out GMMF on tour where they can be experienced in all their full-fledged nu funk glory.
