Glifted

Under and In

BY Eric HillPublished Feb 1, 2003

The joy of repetition has been the basis for musical bliss-outs spanning multiple genres - trance, techno, drone rock, classical minimalism, for example. Glifted ("gifted and lifted") approach the concept from a slant similar to Spaceman 3 or even My Bloody Valentine, but all too often let their sample pedals do all the work. Tim Lash, formerly of Hum, creates psychedelic squalls of guitar noise that are treated and looped ad nausea and adorned with robotic percussion, but absent is the melody line that would make these songs to reach transcendence. What we are left with is a kind of workbook of (good) ideas for what could later become a finished project.
