Glen Campbell Reveals Alzheimer's Diagnosis, Announces Farewell Album with Robert Pollard, Paul Westerberg, Billy Corgan

Last year it was announced that Glen Campbell was planning a farewell album featuring a number of guest stars, including Guided By Voices frontman Robert Pollard, the Replacements' Paul Westerberg and Jakob Dylan. One year later, Campbell has announced a release date for the disc, as well as an upcoming goodbye tour. Regrettably, the news comes bittersweet, as he's also revealed he's suffering from Alzheimer's.

Sadly, a press release confirms that Campbell is in the early stages of the disease, but the "Rhinestone Cowboy" singer will be focusing on his tunes for a bit longer.

In an interview with People, the singer-songwriter revealed, "I still love making music. And I still love performing for my fans. I'd like to thank them for sticking with me through thick and thin."

Titled Ghost On the Canvas, Campbell's swan song also collects a number of backup musicians, including Chris Isaak, Dick Dale, Billy Corgan, Brian Setzer, Rick Nielsen, Roger Manning and the Dandy Warhols. It's being touted as "one of his most moving and energized works to date, a powerfully emotional song cycle that sees him accompanied by a truly dazzling line-up of songwriters and musicians."

While it's unclear if this is the order of the album, a tracklisting can be seen below. Ghost on the Canvas comes out August 30 via Surfdog. All the dates for the upcoming "Glen Campbell Goodbye Tour" are expected sometime soon, but so far only the UK stops have been revealed.

Over the years, Campbell has sold over 45 million albums, racked up 81 top ten hits, including "Wichita Lineman," and hosted his own TV show. He was also a part of Phil Spector's Wrecking Crew studio team and has played on records by the Monkees and Frank Sinatra and performed on the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds.
