Glasseater

Everything Is Beautiful When You Don't Look Down

BY Stuart GreenPublished Sep 1, 2003

Although both Glasseater and Thursday were in on the early days of Grade-inspired screamo pop copycats, they have long been surpassed by many other bands. The latest offerings from both suffer the same terminal fate as many other bands in the genre — that is one of tedious sameness. There's only so much you can do with drop tuned guitars and fast/slow, hard/soft song structures and neither band has figured out how to mess with the formula. Unlike Further Seems Forever, for example, neither Glasseater nor Thursday are particularly accomplished musicians who can get experimental and make their songs interesting. Instead they both just happily rehash the stuff they've done in the past. It's time for these old dogs to either learn some new tricks or be laid to rest.
