Girlfriends and Boyfriends Team Up with Phoenix Thunderbird for Joint Canadian Tour

BY Gregory AdamsPublished May 13, 2013

Vancouver new wave trio Girlfriends and Boyfriends and metal-pop players Phoenix Thunderbird share musician Grant Minor, so it's only natural the acts would want to join forces from time to time. As proof, the acts have announced a joint tour that will help them promote their upcoming, self-released split 7-inch.

The trip kicks off with a hometown gig/record release at the Zoo Zhop on June 6, as part of Music Waste. From there, they'll head out to Ontario and Quebec for a handful of shows, some of which coinciding with NXNE in Toronto. You can check the schedule down below.

The split 7-inch features a song from each band, with both tracks having been recorded by Hayz Fisher. You can sample both Girlfriends and Boyfriends' sassed-up dancefloor filler "Hi-Tops" and Phoenix Thunderbird's galloping '80s-metal fist-pumper "Idle Thoughts" down below.

In other band news, Girlfriends and Boyfriends are also getting ready to record their debut LP, which will be tracked later this year with Felix Fung (Chains of Love, Mode Modern). The band let it be known in a statement that we should expect "twin-lead synth solos, bass-heavy riffs, and genuine '80s guitar shredding."
