Published Sep 23, 2010If you've been paying attention to the blogosphere in the last year or so, you'll have noticed a new breed of bedroom musicians playing washed-out, often eerie electronic pop music. The new sound has split off into two unfortunate sub-genres, with the sensitive troubadours being dubbed "chillwave" and the darker, vaguely gothic ilk performing "witch house."
A lot of these acts share a specific visual aesthetic (pyramids, space photography, blurry Polaroids, etc.) and deceptively similar names, from Teen Daze to Teenage Reverb. Before the new genres go the way of blog house, web designers Matthew Muller and Scott Henning want to help you get your chillwave or witch house project going with their new band name generator at ChillWitchNameMagic.com.
"If any real bands names come up it is purely coincidental," the site reads. But a couple clicks on the name generator and all of these fake monikers read like a Hype Machine playlist. From Teen Spook to ECHO CΔNDLES and HΔZY PΔRΔDE (the site replaces all "a"s with triangles), we wouldn't be surprised if you could throw some warbly electronics onto a CD-R and be signed within the week with your fancy new name-generated moniker.
Try it out for yourself here.
