Published Jul 19, 2013What weekend would be complete without a trip to the movies? To help you on your journey, we here at Exclaim! have taken a look at a handful of the new films playing in theatres this week, but don't forget to visit our Recently Reviewed section for reviews on even more new releases as they come available.
Starting things off is Red 2 (pictured), the long-awaited sequel to the geriatric action-comedy of the same name. But is it able to deliver the same tone and comic appeal that made the original such a success? You'll have to read on to find out.
Next, the brooding tag team of Ryan Gosling and director Nicolas Winding Refn constantly disappoint in the unintentionally hilarious crime-noir Only God Forgives, while retro-tinted horror film The Conjuring delivers one of the scariest experiences in recent memory.
After that, Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges do their best Agent J and K impressions in the sci-fi buddy cop comedy R.I.P.D., which, although it provides very little we haven't seen before, ultimately leaves us with "the Men in Black sequel we never knew we wanted," according to our reviewer.
Finally, DreamWorks turns the tortoise and the hare duality on its head with the souped-up snail comedy Turbo. But is this vibrant animated feature a little too formulaic to keep things interesting for viewers outside of the family fun department? Click through and see.
Of course, those aren't all the movies in theatres this week. Check out our Recently Reviewed section for reviews on even more new films.
